Did you know that major manufacturers of water heaters such as Bradford White, State, Rheem, Kenmore, and Whirlpool are offering far more than those old standard model water heaters? Technology has changed the way that plumbing systems are built today and you can take advantage of that technology if you know what to look for. Among your many choices for new water heaters are:
Solar hot water heaters work by allowing heated water from a solar collector on the roof or outside to flow through a coil and transfer heat to the surrounding water in the tank. Some models, like the ECOSTORâ„¢ SC SOLAR INDIRECT SYSTEM for instance, include a single or dual back-up heating element to enable the tank to hold hot water even when solar heating is not available, like during extended rainy seasons or days of continuous snowfall. Even with the use of the back-up for a number of days each year, the solar water heaters available on the market today are still the most energy efficient you can buy, and they don't burn fossil fuels at all.
If solar just isn't an option for you, weigh the impact of your hot water heater choice carefully. Traditional oil-burning hot water heaters are on their way out in many ways. We still install them, but we normally recommend cleaner burning propane or natural gas hot water heaters. It's even possible that combination heaters designed for energy efficiency might be the right choice for you. Call us and we'll go over your many options before you make a decision on which hot water heater to install.
